“Internet + Government Service” is an important initiative to promote the digital transformation of the government, which has great significance to build a government, high-quality service-oriented and incorruptible. Based on provincial panel data from China between 2015 and 2020, this paper examines the impact of the provincial government’s construction of the “Internet + Government Service” (I+GS) platform on the level of regional integrity from an empirical perspective. By using fixed-effects and dynamic panel models, the estimate results show that the provincial government’s “I+GS” platform can indeed significantly improve the local level of integrity, and the higher the online government service capacity of the provincial government, the higher the public perception of the integrity of the provincial government. Mechanism analysis shows that providing convenient and complete service methods and effectively reducing public exposure to corruption are important mechanisms for the “I+GS” platform to significantly improve the regional integrity, while the mechanism of improving transparency and service efficiency has not been fully realized. The heterogeneity analysis shows that there is a mutual weakening effect between the “I+GS” platform and the economic development, which has a positive impact on the level of local integrity. In the future, the construction of the “Internet + Government Service” platform should focus on improving transparency and service efficiency, continuously enhancing integrated government service capabilities, building a more efficient and incorruptible digital government, and assisting in the construction of an incorruptible China. |
